Mrs. Brown taught 4th grade. She was six feet tall and mean, with a beehive and tinted glasses. She hated sweatshirts tied around waists and the sound of velcro. She liked coffee cake. Once on the way to the office I saw her in the parking lot, smoking a cigarette. I think she was crying.
